Speaking to technology website Gizmodo, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer has revealed that there’s no need to put a Blu-ray drive into an Xbox 360 because you’ll be able to get one as an accessory.

Asked specifically about a Blu-ray Xbox 360, Ballmer replied: “Well I don’t know if we need to put Blu-ray in there – you’ll be able to get Blu-ray drives as accessories.”

Gizmodo then went to Xbox PR for clarification: “Our immediate solution for Blu-ray-quality video on an Xbox 360 is coming this fall with Zune Video and 1080p instant-on HD streaming. As far as our future plans are concerned, we’re not ready to comment.”

With standalone Blu-ray players now available for around £100, what would you consider paying for a Blu-ray Xbox 360 accessory?
