Blizzard has decided to “reset” progress on its unannounced ‘next-gen’ MMORPG Titan and take the game back to the drawing board, according to a report by VentureBeat.

The site claims that the game is “now not expected to be published until 2016 at the earliest” following the developer’s decision to rework the game, with the initial 100-man team working on it reduced to just 30.

Blizzard is said to have reassigned those taken off the project to “other work”.

“We’ve always had a highly iterative development process, and the unannounced MMO is no exception,” Blizzard spokesman Shon Damron told VentureBeat in response to its report.

“We’ve come to a point where we need to make some large design and technology changes to the game. We’re using this opportunity to shift some of our resources to assist with other projects while the core team adapts our technology and tools to accommodate these new changes.”

Damron adds that Blizzard has not “announced any dates for the MMO”.

The report follows comments from Activision earlier this month confirming that Blizzard’s long-running MMO World of Warcraft was in a period of downturn.

1.3 million users were revealed to have left World of Warcraft during the previous quarter, leaving 8.3m active subscribers.
