The fourth expansion for World of Warcraft is going to be “pretty freakin’ awesome”, World of Warcraft senior producer John Lagrave has told GameInformer.

Cataclysm, the highly anticipated third expansion for the still-growing MMO, hits December 7, but fans can already begin to get excited about what’s still to come.

“We’ve now got a central idea [for the next expansion] that makes me happy and gets me excited, and it makes everyone else happy and excited,” explained Lagrave. “When everybody gets happy and excited, we know we’re on to something. We don’t know if it’s going to be the final thing, but we know something good is coming. Will it top Cataclysm? I think it’s pretty freakin’ awesome. I’m really hopeful.”

So will the expansions stop coming after the fourth? Lagrave says they’ll “do expansions basically until [Blizzard president] Mike Morhaime says there’s no need to do any more.”

Part of the reason World of Warcraft continues to grow is because of Blizzard’s continued support for the game. Stop putting out regular expansions and the userbase could fall away. If 12 million people are willing to pay a monthly subscription, the new content will keep on coming.
