We knew it would be big, but we didn’t know how big. Blizzard have issued a press release stating that they have sold more than 600,000 units of World of Warcraft since its release in North America, Australia, and New Zealand. WoW indeed.
On top of this it seems that more than 200,000 people were playing simultaneously over the holiday period, breaking all previous concurrency records in North America for an MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game). This has put WoW in the number one spot straight out of the gates. Impressive for a company that has never released an MMORPG before.
You also have to keep in mind that this is before the game has gone on worldwide release and you’ll have an idea of just how major an event it is. The game itself is currently in Beta testing stage in Europe and is due for full release in March. We are all eagerly anticipating it and we’ll give you a full review as soon as we can.
