Blizzard has plans to introduce a variety of difficulty levels to its upcoming World of Warcraft expansion, Mists of Pandaria.
Speaking at this year’s Blizzcon, lead systems designer Greg Street explained that Mists will introduce ranges of experiences that vary in degrees, PCGamer reports.
“Halo had like five difficulty levels, Civilisation had eight or something,” said Street. “On the hard end we want it to be at the hard end of Cataclysm, but then on the easier end we want it to be on the level of Lich King.”
This will be done by applying different rules to certain battles.
“On a harder boss we might say if you stand in the fire you will die, you cannot stand in the fire. On easier difficulty levels we might make it so you can stand in there for a while and with enough healing you can maybe just ignore it completely and stand in there, or you have enough time for someone to say, ‘Hey dude, you really should get out of that.'”
Lead writer Chris Metzen has stated that while many still see the new Pandaren race as a joke, the studio is as “serious as a heart attack” about them.
