Blizzard may be looking to include product placement in its upcoming MMO, Project Titan, according to a recent job posting for a franchise development producer.
Listed alongside branding and merchandising responsibilities, the firm is looking for a producer who can “work with major consumer brands to facilitate product placement and licensing within the world of Blizzard Entertainment’s next-gen MMO that enhances the gameplay experience.”
Little official information is available regarding the currently in-development MMO, however World of Warcraft writer Chris Metzen acknowledged the game at last year’s GDC Online panel, stating that fan expectation for Titan “is a bitch“.
Additionally, Blizzard has already acknowledged the game will be an entirely new IP, not attached to any of its current franchises.
Despite the lack of solid information, the inclusion of product placement may suggest a present-day setting for the game.
It’s been rumoured the game will be anything from an MMOFPS to a social game for casual players. Blizzard has pushed WoW further out toward the reaches of casual gaming, making it seem all the more likely that they might choose to turn their focus entirely toward this new market. But it’s still possible they might choose to develop a new MMO to cater to their still-relevant hardcore following.
