The arrival of Omnimovement in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is the biggest change to the franchise in several years. The ability to sprint, slide, and dive in any direction adds another layer of fluidity when navigating the maps as fast as possible, turning the game into a first-person Max Payne.

With the launch of Season 1 moving into view, Treyarch is already making significant changes to how you can move around over the course of a match. As part of a recent update, the developer has completely destroyed one overpowered mechanic that has caused controversy in both casual and competitive communities.

Snaking hit with huge nerf

While the numerous weapon buffs and nerfs from the November 4 patch notes take the limelight, a huge nerf to “snaking” has flown under the radar despite having a huge impact on how Black Ops 6 plays in casual matches and high stakes competitive action.

Adjusted stance change cooldowns to reduce effectiveness of repeated prone to stand movement (enough snaking).

Treyarch

Snaking in Call of Duty has often caused plenty of division. Since the launch of Black Ops 6, you can switch between prone and crouch quickly. This allows you to peek above a piece of cover to gather intel safely or to outplay an opponent thanks to some superior mechanical mastery.

To address the snaking issue, Treyarch has slowed the speed of switching between prone and crouching stances resulting in more of a level playing field if you’re attempting to eliminate an enemy ducking and diving in and out of cover in the heat of battle.

The right direction

Black Ops 6 has only been live for a couple of weeks and it’s a huge positive to see Treyarch make major changes before the first post-launch season gets underway. The developer also reduced the power of Flashbang grenades to prevent the blinding white screen from disrupting your vision.

The launch of a new season will bring further changes to various areas of Black Ops 6. The less powerful snaking mechanic will create even more of a skill gap, separating the average player from the very best. Let’s hope another broken tactic doesn’t take its place anytime soon.
