The preloading process for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is now underway, much to the excitement of fans patiently waiting to load into Treyarch’s latest release. In recent years, Call of Duty’s file size has ballooned thanks to the arrival of COD HQ, a one-stop hub for all things relating to Activision’s shooter series, but Treyarch has finally addressed the Black Ops 6 download size for fans on all platforms.

COD HQ has been a cause of frustration for several players due to the sheer size of some of the downloads required to play a campaign, multiplayer, and Warzone. Thankfully, the Black Ops 6 file size is the smallest it’s been in years, great news if you’re running low on hard drive space, but you still do need an internet connection to play.

Black Ops 6 download size is shrinking

After the most recent version of Black Ops 6 appeared in the PlayStation database, file size tracking account PlaystationSize X revealed the full game will be just over 56 GB. The significant shrinkage is great news if you don’t want to remove other games to enjoy the latest Call of Duty.

2023’s Modern Warfare 3 saw Call of Duty file sizes reach record sizes with players having to download a total of 171 GB to experience all of the content included. On top of COD HQ, the game was the first to carry over content from one game to another, resulting in larger downloads.

Black Ops 6’s smaller file size is also thanks to its battle royale. In August, Activision finally separated Warzone from the annual releases, much to the delight of players. The combined download meant that players who didn’t want to play Warzone still had to download the mode’s massive maps and gameplay modes.

The smaller Black Ops 6 download size also means you can spend less time waiting for it to complete ahead of launch, giving you the perfect opportunity to load into the action as soon as the servers are switched on. The game isn’t out yet, but Treyarch has already made sweeping changes to ease the concerns of players.

How to preload Black Ops 6

If you’ve already pre-ordered Black Ops 6, the process of preloading the game is really easy. In most cases, the download will begin automatically on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation. If it doesn’t, there are a few steps you can follow.

PlayStation users can highlight the Call of Duty game tile then select the ‘Check for Update’ button for it to begin. For Xbox players, find the game in your library, select the ‘Manage games and add-ons option,’ and it should begin. Players on Battle.net will notice the preload will begin without having to trigger it manually.
