What did you think of BioShock 2’s multiplayer? While most of us agreed on the quality of the main game – VideoGamer.com dished out a whopping 9/10 in its BioShock 2 review – some people felt the competitive deathmatch mode didn’t really work.

And it seems BioShock creator Ken Levine shares this view.

“I’m not sure that’s what the audience necessarily wanted out of a BioShock multiplayer experience,” said Levine, speaking to VideoGamer.com at a BioShock Infinite showcase in LA. “I’m not saying I know what that is, necessarily. But I think the important thing is that if you’re going to make a BioShock multiplayer, you have to start by saying, ‘What do people come to BioShock for?’ I’m not sure it was for that kind of experience.”

Levine himself didn’t actually work on BioShock 2, as development for the sequel was handled by 2K Marin.

“I think they did a good job with it, but I’m not sure that’s why an audience would come to a BioShock multiplayer experience,” he continued. “I think they can get that experience with other products. For me, a BioShock game is… good or bad, up or down, you’re not going to get this experience anywhere else.”

Levine has yet to reveal whether there will be a multiplayer component for the new game, but it seems unlikely. Either way, it’s already looking rather superb. For more of my impressions, check out our latest BioShock Infinite preview.
