The biggest VR game of all time, Beat Saber, has sold countless virtual reality headsets over the years. Now owned by Meta’s Oculus Studios, the rhythm game juggernaut is on pretty much every VR platform, but the devs are now abandoning PSVR and PSVR 2.
In a statement to fans, Beat Studios confirmed end of support for PS4 and PS4 players. While the game will still be available to buy in its current state alongside DLC packs, no new updates will be coming to the game.
Beat Saber drops PSVR support
Beat Studios explained that the last update for Beat Saber on PS4 and PS5 is its last. As of June 18, 2025, no future updates or DLC music packs will be released for the game on PlayStation platforms as the team plans “the next big leap” for the game’s future.
Additionally, multiplayer for the rhythm game will only be playable until January 21, 2026. Afetr that date, multiplayer will become non-functional on the PSVR and PSVR 2 versions of the music game.
“Our passion for VR remains unwavering,” the developers said in a statement. “We are excited about the possibilities that lie ahead and what we can bring to Beat Saber fans who have been on this journey with us over the past 7 years.”
The final DLC for the game on PS4 and PS5 is the Lady Gaga track Abracadabra, which was released as a “Shock Drop” launch on June 5, 2025. “This is the last piece of content we released in Beat Saber on the PlayStation platform,” the studio confirmed.
The end of support for the PlayStation platform means nothing for players on other platforms with Quest, PC and PICO platforms still receiving updates for the game. However, PlayStation owners will be left behind.
PSVR 2 has been a major failure in the VR space, although the headset itself is an incredible piece of tech. While the original PSVR had great adoption on PS4, that fervour simply hasn’t continued into the PS5 generation. Nevertheless, there are still new releases coming to the platform in the future. (It might help if PlayStation released some exclusive titles again, though!)
