BattleZone on the PSP will be a modern update of the classic 1980’s arcade game, promising relentless onslaughts of quick, action-oriented battles. The game is in development at Paradigm Entertainment, and will feature a variety of combat modes for the lone player, and WiFi multiplayer for four players.

Players take control of hover tanks, challenging opponents in close combat battle scenarios. Six game modes, including, Capture the Flag, Team Deathmatch, Hotzone, Knockout, Fox and Hound, should keep destruction-happy gamers busy. If you’re new to the series then the single-player mode provides an easy entry, guiding you through tournaments, winning upgrades and enhancements.

Battle in ten locations all over the world, including abandoned cities of Russia, jungles of China, desert canyons of the United States and Antarctica’s frozen tundra. Extra game content will also be made available through the BattleZone website, which will feature news, leader boards (not clear if this means online play or simply some form of stat tracking) and an exclusive online level builder tool, letting players customise two of the game’s ten worlds. This content can then be transferred to the PSP using a USB cable.

The BattleZone arcade game broke the mold for vehicle action combat in 1980, and today’s version will reinvent this classic property into a modern day must-have,” said Stephen Baer, Senior Product Manager, Atari, Inc. “BattleZone for the PSP system offers the fast-paced action and addictive gameplay that meets the demands of today’s on-the-go generation.

BattleZone on the PSP is schedule for release in November.
