According to reports in The Hollywood Reporter, Moore “is looking to delve deeper into video games as a further extension of the franchise.” Apparently Moore has been toying with the idea of a Battlestar Galactica role-playing game, complete “with Internet participation.

Of course, there has already been an attempt at a Battlestar video game. It was released towards the end of 2003 on PlayStation 2 and Xbox, and received a mixed reception. Although Moore hasn’t divulged any firm plans for a new game, he has hinted that it would be more than a simple series tie-in.

You’re forced to make a choice with a Galactica game in defining what’s fun,” he said. “Is it about experiencing the first season, navigating from the miniseries up to [the episode] ‘Kobol’s Last Gleaming’? Or is it doing something that’s going off into uncharted territory but taking it further away from the reason you watch the show in the first place?

Fans of the show shouldn’t get excited just yet, but given the success of the television series, it seems likely that a video game will arrive at some point.
