Battlefield Studios’ brilliant reveal of Battlefield 6 has shown off a modern military setting, gorgeous destruction and teased an all-new cinematic campaign.
While attending the Battlefield 6 reveal event in London, we asked the game’s UX designer whether the series’ all-important server browser would be making its glorious return, as well as if awful skins like CoD’s Beevis and Butthead would be added.
Battlefield’s iconic server browser allows players to quickly jump into a game without waiting for matchmaking to sort itself out. It’s a useful tool at any point in the game’s lifecycle, but it often comes and goes depending on the game.

Battlefield 6 definitely has a server browser
Speaking to VideoGamer, Battlefield 6 UX director Alan Pimm confirmed that the server browser is indeed back for the game. When asked whether “server browser is back”, Pimm simply responded: “there is a server browser”.
Unfortunately, the team at Battlefield Studios has confirmed that the server browser will only be used in Battlefield Portal on launch, a mode where players can create modes and maps to design bespoke experiences.
What we can confirm is that the server browser was not available for matchmaking during our time playing an early build of what will be the open beta. However, this doesn’t mean that the feature won’t be added to standard matchmaking at some point in the future.
During our playthrough of Battlefield 6 and our time with the developers, the team constantly discussed looking back on what made the multiplayer series great. Specifically, the team mentioned the highs of Battlefield 3 and Battlefield 4, two games that both used the server browser to fantastic results when they were released.
Right now, we know the server browser is back, and we definitely know it’ll be used for Battlefield Portal, but we really hope that it will make its way into standard matchmaking. After all, if Battlefield Studios really is listening, this is what the fans really want.
