The Lord of the Rings, The Battle for Middle-earth II will mark the series’ debut on a home console. Battle for Middle-earth II will also be the first game from The Lord of the Rings franchise to be playable over Xbox Live, with the ability to challenge friends to intense, real-time battles.

Living these cinematic battles in high-definition with stunning surround sound, all from the comfort of your living room couch on the Xbox 360, is an extraordinary experience,” said Louis Castle, VP of Creative Development at EALA. “Adding the ability to battle it out with friends via Xbox LIVE is also really exciting.

Although based on the PC version of the same name, the Xbox 360 version will feature a “a new and intuitive console-specific control scheme,” that is said to make it easy for novice players to enjoy the game, but also offer expert players the ability to “engage in a deeply complex strategy experience.”

The game will also include voice chat and some new game modes exclusive to the Xbox 360. These include Capture the Flag and King of the Hill, modes common in FPS titles, made to work in a real-time strategy setting.
