Batman: Return to Arkham, the collection of supposed remasters of Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City, will no longer launch for PS4 and Xbox One on July 29 as announced only last month.

Warner says the collection does not have a new release date, explaining the reason for the delay in a forum post.

“After reviewing the progress of the project, the team at WB Games has decided to delay the release of Batman: Return to Arkham to give the team at Virtuous Games additional time to deliver a polished Batman Arkham game experience,” reads the post.

“We do not have a release date yet and will be sure to communicate that once we are sure the game will be ready. We know this is disappointing news, but we feel the extra time will allow the team to create the best gaming experience for our fans.”

The two games are said to have been remastered in Unreal Engine 4 and feature upgraded character models, environments, lighting, effects and shaders. Each game’s DLCs are thrown in as well, although the third game, Batman: Arkham Origins, will not be included.

Perhaps it’s the negative reaction to the supposed remastered visuals – NeoGAF highlighting areas in which the visuals appear worse than the original games – which have caused Warner to give the games more time in the oven. After the mess that was Arkham Knight the publisher will want this release to be without problems.

It isn’t yet clear whether the two titles will be available to purchase individually. For the first screenshots head through here, or take a look at the debut trailer below.
