Since the release of Patch 7 on console, players on Xbox and PlayStation have been able to download and install mods in Larian’s RPG. However, this amazing feature may also be a mark of death for some players’ saves.
Protect your Baldur’s Gate 3 save
In a post on Twitter, Larian confirmed that the next update will decimate players’ saves that are using “over 100 mods”. With thousands of mods available for hair styles, outfits and minor changes, some players may have too many mods for the game to handle.
However, Larian urges players not to delete their broken saves after the next hot fix as the studio is already working on a solution.
“[The update] will temporarily render saves with more than 100 mods unplayable while we prepare to ship a follow-up fix that will give you access to your saves after uninstalling some existing mods,” the studio explained.
Larian also explains that “saves without 100+ mods installed will remain unaffected”.
You can have too many mods
The age-old saying that gamers can “never have too many mods” appears to have been proven wrong with this new Baldur’s Gate 3 patch.
Larian explains that the game’s console port currently suffers from “instability, reduced performance, and crashes when playing with more than 100 mods on console”.
While 100 mods is a hell of a lot, some mod packs for other RPGs like Skyrim or Fallout manage to boast mod counts far exceeding this. Although, as expected, they tend to be extremely unstable. On the other hand, most gamers tend to hold a little bit of restraint.
