Baldur’s Gate 3 is a gorgeous RPG with a lot to explore, but the majority of the game is set in extremely bright locations. Thanks to the ingenuity of modders, you can now explore Fae’run at night time, complete with a giant moon that fills the sky.

With Larian now leaving BG3 behind to focus on two new games, the game’s life is now almost entirely dependant on the will of modders. Thankfully, the game’s dedicated modders aren’t leaving the game behind anytime soon, and likely never will.

Play Baldur’s Gate 3 at night time

Created by modder ‘CH’ the Baldur’s Gate 3 ‘Night Mode’ mods are new Patch 8 compatible mods that allow you to play the entire game at night. Available via three separate mods—one for each Act in the game—you can experience the entirety of Larian’s RPG with a brand-new look.

The iconic BG3 title screen at night time is a beauty to behold.

Alongside the night time mods themselves, the mods also need to have the “just a better torch mod” installed to make them work. Essentially, this mod just makes your torch better by increasing the effectiveness of the torch which makes night time exploring much nicer.

Now, these mods aren’t huge additions to Baldur’s Gate 3, but they do add a much different vibe to Larian’s RPG than the bright daytime we’re all used to. It would be nice to see even more overhauls to the game’s NPC behaviours now that the game is set at night such as sparser crowds, more limited shops, etc.

While the mod may be simple, a lot of work has gone into changing the entire game’s lighting to match a nightime mood. Even better, it’s not the type of darkness that means you just can’t see anything—it’s like proper cinematic dark blue lighting. Now if only modern filmmakers could understand that.
