No element is arguably as important to the Baldur’s Gate 3 fandom than the relationships you can form and nurture in the game. As Larian Studios’ expansive RPG provides players with plenty of eligible bachelors and bachelorettes to get busy with, people have predictably spent most of their time in Faerûn wooing their potential partner to get some quality one-on-one time.

Now, since conversations with all Baldur’s Gate 3 companions presents you with multiple dialogue options, a few unassuming players had chosen to utter seemingly innocent lines in the hopes of advancing these platonic relationships. Unfortunately, it seems the dating scene in BG3 largely reflects that of the real world’s as some within the community are accidentally getting into relationships after simply being nice to certain characters.

Over on Reddit, a post created by ilbol showcased this in-game phenomenon by explaining their complicated relationship with the Blade of Frontiers, Wyll. In their lengthy message, the post creator said: “I danced with Wyll ONCE, and I mean just danced. Now I’m officially in a relationship, everyone in the camp acknowledges it, [and] Wyll treats me like I’m his fxxxxxx wife.” “What the hell is going on? This feels so creepy, I am NOT in a relationship with him, I don’t fancy him, I never said I did,” they continued.

Those commenting under the same thread shared their own experiences with other companions as SkawPV mentioned: “I just wanted to see a Cantrip and now Gale wants to fxxx me. Help.” A Redditor named Pandabeat2, on the other hand, merely noted that these situations sound “like some relationships in real life.”

Based on these player experiences, it does seem as if paying your companions too many compliments eventually gives them the wrong signals.
