The first volley of this year’s inevitable war of the words between Activision and EA has been fired by the latter publisher.

“Poor #blackops2 you look tired, you should take a year off and rest,” said Kevin O’Leary, EA global product manager and a man currently working on a product called Warfighter, on Twitter.

O’Leary later added that he was “excited about the FPS competition & E3 this year. Medal of Honor Warfighter, Battlefield 3, Frostbite 2…FTW #MOH #BF3 #BlackOps2.”

After spotting that his comments might have been noticed by the rest of the world, O’Leary has subsequently promised to give his official stance on Tickle Me Elmo if his Twitter account reaches 1000 followers. It is currently on 985. We will update the story if this changes.

If you’ve only recently started playing games, this back-and-forth match is pretty much what happens every year.

The Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 trailer was revealed yesterday. EA’s FPS counterpart, Medal of Honor: Warfighter, was shown earlier in the year at GDC.
