Variety reports that Atari isn’t stopping with the acquisition of publishing rights to The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena, with the publisher also said to have snapped up the Ghostbusters video game.
Sources close to Atari have told Variety that the game is pencilled in for a summer 2009 release to coincide with the film’s 25th anniversary. It’s also believed that Atari has agreed a licensing deal with Sony Pictures enabling it to produce further games should the first be successful.
Ghostbusters and The Chronicles of Riddick were formerly under the Sierra Entertainment publishing label, but following the formation of Activision Blizzard were dropped along with a host of titles including 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand and Brutal Legend – the former has been picked up by THQ.
