Atari is considering rebooting classic franchises Tempest, Warlords, Adventure, Missile Command “and many more”, the publisher has revealed.

The company’s comments coincide with the launch of Asteroids Outpost earlier today, a first-person reboot of the classic 1970s arcade shooter.

“This is part of our new strategy,” said Atari’s chief operating officer Todd Shallbetter. “We are going to be teaming up with young and innovative studios to take a refreshing look at each game from our extensive portfolio.”

He continued: “Asteroids is the first of a long series of re-births, and we are considering doing the same for our other iconic games such as Warlords, Adventure, Tempest, Missile Command and many more.”

Atari’s comments follow shortly after the company accused Jeff Minter’s latest game ‘TxK’ of being a “blatant copy of the Tempest Games” and an “infringement” of the publisher’s copyright.

Minter described the situation as “achingly sad”.
