Atari has today announced that Neverwinter Nights 2: Storm of Zehir, the second expansion for the PC RPG, is currently in production and is scheduled for release worldwide in Q4 2008.

Neverwinter Nights 2: Storm of Zehir has looked to past classics such as the Baldur’s Gate and Icewind Dale franchises for inspiration and includes full party customisation, dungeon crawling, and free exploration of a non-linear game world via an Overland Map.

The aftermath of the defeat of the King of Shadows has left the Sword Coast in the midst of an uneasy economic recovery. Trade syndicates have emerged and are exploiting the post-war confusion for their own ends. The player’s party will enter into this environment looking to increase their fortunes and will be able to ally with a syndicate to create a trade empire, or find their own path through Faerûn by preying upon caravans and selling the goods on the black market.

As the game progresses players will become aware of a new faction working behind the scenes: the evil, shape shifting serpentine Yuan-Ti.

The campaign in Neverwinter Nights 2: Storm of Zehir is said to feature around 15 hours gameplay and promises to be packed with new classes, spells, creatures, and playable races.
