Assassin’s Creed Syndicate will include microtransactions that let players “save time and accelerate progress”, Ubisoft has confirmed, allowing users with a limited amount of time to “eventually acquire the game’s most powerful gear”.
The model is “quite similar” to Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag, senior producer Francois Pelland says, but will be “100% optional”. No in-game content will be locked behind a paywall.
“Assassin’s Creed Syndicate will include paid options to save time and accelerate progress,” Pelland said in a Q&A session with IGN. “The model for Assassin’s Creed Syndicate is quite similar to Black Flag, allowing players who do not have time to fully explore our huge game world to still be able to eventually acquire the game’s most powerful gear as well as other items.
“Rest assured, all of AC Syndicate’s content is available without paying anything additional and the game has been balanced such that microtransactions are 100% optional.”
Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag let players purchase a range of “time saver” packs priced between 79p and £2.39 that revealed the locations of collectibles, skip activities required to upgrade your ship and gain additional resources.
Last year’s Assassin’s Creed: Unity, however, introduced a new in-game currency called ‘Helix Credits’ that could be spent on new weapons or used to purchase Boosts, increasing player stats for a limited amount of time. Whether Helix Credits will return for Syndicate isn’t yet clear.
Assassin’s Creed Syndicate launches on Xbox One and PS4 on October 23, and PC on November 19.
