Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate, this year’s Assassin’s Creed game set in Victorian London, will feature both male and female protagonists, sources have told Kotaku.

An official announcement is due to come at 5pm today, but two sources have allegedly told Kotaku that the game will star Jacob and Evie, siblings who are entrenched in the criminal underworld of Victorian London.

The news comes around a year after Ubisoft came under a great deal of criticism for not including a playable female character in the cooperative Assassin’s Creed Unity.

Kotaku says that Jacob is seen as the primary character, accounting for around 75 per cent of the campaign, with Evie taking the other 25 per cent. Between missions players will apparently be able to switch between brother and sister as they wish.

Additionally, Syndicate won’t feature a multiplayer mode, a feature which has been found in all tentpole franchise releases since 2010’s Brotherhood.
