Michael Fassbender will play not one but two parts in the holiday 2016 Assassin’s Creed movie, Ubisoft has confirmed.
Fassbender will star as Aguilar, a new Assassin created specifically for the film, and new modern day counterpart Callum Lynch who discovers his connection to the 15th century Assassin via his genetic memories.
The action will take place in 15th century Spain.
Fans will be pleased to learn that the movie is being treated as canon, with the games and film sharing the same universe.
“Elements in the film have consequences as in our games, comics, and books,” the publisher confirmed during a Twitter Q&A.
Ubisoft says the aim is for the film to appeal to both fans of the game series and newcomers, meaning you won’t find tons of references but it will definitely feel like the Assassin’s fans love.
That said, fans should keep an eye out for possible cameo appearances from “some familiar faces”, though Ubisoft isn’t saying any more just yet.
Assassin’s Creed begins filming next week in London, Malta and Spain.
