Assassin's Creed III director Alex Hutchinson has revealed that he'd chop and change numerous parts of the game's notoriously lengthy prologue chapter if he was able to have another crack at the sequel.

Launched in 2012, Assassin's Creed III was the most ambitious entry in the stab-happy series up to that point, being built on a new game engine and introducing a new protagonist after three games featuring Ezio 'Jack the Lad' Auditore.

However, while the main campaign follows Connor Kenway as he hunts down Templars across the US wilderness, the opening sections had you playing as his father, Haytham.

It's these areas that Hutchinson says he would change, given the chance. It's fitting timing too, as Assassin's Creed III is being remastered for current-generation consoles as part of the Season Pass for Assassin's Creed Odyssey.

'We should have broken up Haytham's intro into chunks and interspersed them throughout the game to get to Connor faster,' he posted on Twitter. 'The shock reveal of another playable character was great, but the start was too slow.'

'We allowed people to draw rude things in the snow in a game well before it was fashionable or technically advisable,' Hutchinson continued.

'[And can we] finally admit that today, years after it was released, it was okay to change the colour of Connor's sash from the crimson red of Ezio and Altair to a nice royal blue, and that it really wasn't worth having seven two hour meetings about.'

While Connor's American adventure wasn't met with the same overwhelmingly positive reviews as the past few games, it did have its fans and ultimately sold very well. It's a pity that Haytham was more interesting of a lead than Connor at the end of the day though, and the less said about Desmond the better.

Assassin's Creed III Remastered will be sold as a separate download in spring 2019 on PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One.
