The first alleged info and screenshot of Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag has leaked online.

The next Assassin’s Creed title, which has yet to be officially revealed by Ubisoft, will supposedly be themed around pirates and privateers, and be set across the Caribbean Islands during 1715, presumably preceding the events of Assassin’s Creed 3.

The name was first leaked via Kotaku last night, which published a pair of images supposedly showing a promotional poster for the next game.

The front side of the poster appears to show the game’s new swashbuckling assassin battling pirates aboard a pirate ship.

Meanwhile, the reverse side shows a map of the Caribbean, and appears to include the game’s logo, the game’s time period, and a closer look at the islands players will presumably get to explore, including the coastlands of Florida, the coast of Andreas, and the Cayo Islands.

Then, moments later, the first alleged screenshot of the game appeared online courtesy of The Examiner (above), along with further supposed information on the game’s protagonist and its setting.

According to the website, Black Flag tells the tale of Edward Kenway, father of Asassin’s Creed 3’s Haytham Kenway. “Edward is known as a Privateer, Assassin and occasional pirate,” the site claims, and “the games [sic] location is set in the Caribbean on multiple islands including Jamaica, Cuba and the Bahamas”.

Like Watch Dogs, The Examiner claims that Black Flag will be cross-generational, with Assassin’s Creed: Revelations writer Darby McDevitt returning as “lead script writer”.

Ubisoft confirmed that a new Assassin’s Creed title was in the works earlier this month, with a trio of Ubisoft developers appearing to refer to the game as “Assassin’s Creed 4” in their online CVs.

The new game will feature an “all-new Assassin’s Creed hero” and be set in a new time period.

The game is rumoured to be revealed imminently.
