With only a few hours left until the release time, Armored Core 6 is now topping the list of the launch day’s best seller charts on Steam.

According to SteamDB, Armored Core 6: Fires of Rubicon is currently sitting ahead of Baldur’s Gate 3 and Starfield. Of course, the game’s release date will no doubt invite an influx of purchases, though for a dormant and, dare-I-say, forgotten franchise, it’s nothing short of impressive.

Of course, recent years have had FromSoftware’s other games such as Dark Souls, Bloodborne, and perhaps most emphatically, Elden Ring, building an enchanting mythos around the development studio, so there was almost no way that there wouldn’t be swathes of fans looking to pick up the game on its launch day.

If the Armored Core 6 reviews fairly reflect the views of the consumers, perhaps we could even see the game remain guarding that top spot for a few more days. Although, with Starfield’s release date fast approaching, it’s hard to imagine it will put up much a fight against Bethesda’s latest IP.

Armored Core 6, FromSoftware’s revival of a cult classic Mecha franchise, has been praised so far for its complex customisation and difficulty spikes, alongside a dense science-fiction world beset by violence. We’re looking forward to seeing how it’s received upon its launch, though from what it looks like it’s going inscribe itself into video game history books in a similar fashion to Dark Souls, which is for many, the game that really defined the souls-like genre.

However, AC6 is not going to be too similar to other FromSoftware games, and will instead introduce new dynamic movement and gameplay mechanics, though the DNA of the game is emphatically apparent. Will it be enough to keep it afloat on Steam’s best seller charts? Whatever the outcome, it’s clear that Armored Core 6 has re-ignited the flames of the franchise.
