Nintendo is keeping mum in regards to a Switch version of Animal Crossing, but a recent trademark filed by the Big N suggests that it may be chiselling away on a new instalment in the much-loved franchise.

According to a translation of the Japanese filing (via Nintendo Life), the trademark specifically mentions software for a home games console, a portable electronic game machine, and smartphone devices.

In addition, the filing also seems to indicate a bunch of merchandising efforts are in the pipeline, with stuffed animals, game machine controllers, playing cards, protective carrying cases, and trading cards also mentioned.

While nothing official has been confirmed yet, a few of the above descriptions definitely sound like they could pertain to a Switch game based on the franchise. Plus, with the console already seeing major entries in some of Nintendo’s most popular brands, there’s no reason why Animal Crossing couldn’t set up shop on Switch too.

For now, digest this morsel with a healthy dose of salt until we hear something concrete.Â
