Animal Crossing: New Horizons has a new Wolf character called Audie, and she seems to be named for the grandma who spent over 3,500 hours in Animal Crossing: New Leaf (via IGN).
Gran says thanks to all the wonderful people who pitched in to get her a Switch! She's so happy and can't wait for the new Animal Crossing game. In the meantime we got her Let's Go Pikachu since she's also a Pokemon fan 🙂 pic.twitter.com/UTeU8Ww1qe

In 2019, 87-year-old Audrey (or Mayor Audie) had logged a whopping 3,500 hours in her New Leaf town across four years. She plays every day, but she isn’t interested in making her town “perfect,” or collecting all of the fish, fossils, or insects. It’s her own town, she knows all of her villagers and their likes and dislikes, and the town is covered with a carpet of flowers. Posing with her Nintendo Switch, her grandson said she is definitely buying the new Animal Crossing game, and it seems that a new character has been named in her honor.
We have an official name for the new Wolf villager in Animal Crossing: New Horizons and her name is Audie! She may be named after the grandma who went viral last year for her 3500+ hours in New Leaf.

Audie is a never-before-seen Wolf villager, who is a rosy-orange colour with a sweep of blonde fringe and stylish yellow eyeshadow and eyeliner. Neither Nintendo nor Audrey have come forward to confirm that the character is named after her, but it’s an unusual name, and she did get a lot of new fans with her story.
Yeah that's her full name in the video, but it would make sense for them to use her Mayor name too, which is Audie.
I'm not certain this is intentional, but considering how few new villagers there are in New Horizons and the video has almost 10 million views… it's possible!

Audrey is not the only person who’s gotten into gaming in their old age. Shirley Curry is famous for her The Elder Scrolls V let’s plays, and “the Gaming Grandma” will be turned into a character in the upcoming The Elder Scrolls VI. She’s also coming to Skyrim as a follower in a fan-made mod. “I spoke with her, and she gave both her permission and said she would help,” said one of the modders in a Reddit post. “We ended up writing a bunch of new lines, which Ms. Curry was gracious enough to record for us. I should emphasise that she is doing this for you. She really cares about her subscribers and anyone who enjoys her videos. After having a surprising amount of back-and-forth with her, I can honestly say that I’ve never met someone like her.”
Animal Crossing: New Horizons releases for Nintendo Switch on March 20.
