Asked how work on Animal Crossing Wii was progressing, Eguchi discussed ideas he and the team have had for the game, incorporating the controller, WiiConnect24 and Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. He said that the controller “could become potentially your axe, your shovel and your fishing rod.” He was clear that these are just ideas, but the potential is definitely there.
Talking about WiiConnect24, Eguchi said that “you could have someone visit your town even when you weren’t actively playing and maybe leave you a letter or a gift.” This will be possible because the Wii will remain connected to the internet even when not in use, in a kind of stand-by mode. He also expects the game to use Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, allowing simultaneous play between players.
Don’t expect the game any time soon though; Eguchi says the game is “not playable yet,” and that a release date is “yet to be determined.“
