If you’ve been experiencing purchase indecisiveness over the past couple of weeks thanks to the numerous variants of graphics cards announced – hold on, there’s more. AMD have cut the price of the RX 7900 XT to $709, which is nearly $200 less than the 4080 Super. As expected, the launch of Nvidia’s Super variants has yielded a response from AMD seemingly feeling left out of the party.
RX 7900 XT
The Radeon RX 7900 XT is one of the main competitors to each of the Nvidia Super GPUs, sporting 20GB of GDDR6X VRAM, alongside clock speeds between 2,130 and 2,500MHz. Different AIB variants are available from Amazon and NewEgg, with the AS Rock variant clocking in the lowest retailer price.
While the RX 7900 XT has been available for far below its MSRP for a while now, having released deep into the trenches of 2022, each new GPU release sees its price chipped at nicely. Even upon its release, it offered a far more affordable starting MSRP than anything that Nvidia was prepared to offer. However, the Super GPUs from Nvidia have now called for a competition.
You’d normally be able to pick up the RX 7900 XT for anywhere between $750 – $800, depending on the particular model, though listings on NewEgg are available for as low as $709 – a price that’s undeniably poised to irritate Team Green.
The price cuts offset the performance gains that Nvidia is making over AMD in ray tracing and AI upscaling, and it definitely levels the playing field slightly. AMD’s promotional offers aren’t here to stay, though. Prices are only reduced until the end of Q1, according to Tom’s Hardware.
You can’t help but feel that AMD have missed a trick slightly by keeping the price of the RX 7800 XT at a steady MSRP, when dropping it down to sub-$500 could have caused havoc in the Nvidia board room.
