Amazon has responded to the reports, yesterday, that its upcoming MMO New World is killing RTX 3090 GPUs.

A customer service representative from Amazon addressed the issue, in a post (via Eurogamer) on the New World game support forums.

“Thank you all for sharing your reports about this problem,” it begins. “We believe this is related with driver settings and frame rate limiters.” The post also acknowledges that New World can cause 100% GPU usage.

The post provides two main solutions to the problem. First, to “Disable the overrides in the driver settings.” Second, it recommends capping your frame rate at 60fps. “This will help prevent issues with the GPU’s utilization.”

The EVGA models of the RTX 3090 seem to have been disproportionately affected by the issue. Some users, however, have responded to the post, saying that they are still experiencing the issue. And that it isn’t just on EVGA models, either.

At the moment, it may be wise to wait before jumping into New World until the problem is properly fixed.

New World is now in its final beta before release. Amazon announced the game in 2016, at TwitchCon. It allows players to colonise a fictional land modelled after Colonial America in the 1600s.

Amazon has scheduled it for release on August 31, on PC.
