Update: Major Nelson has confirmed the game’s release on Xbox One. What a bizarre series of events.

Original report: A digital version of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 has been released via the US Xbox Games Marketplace, with gamers managing to obtain a copy and begin live streaming on Twitch.

The title hit headlines earlier this month when it was confirmed the game had been delayed on Xbox One, with Activision working with Microsoft in an effort to bring the game to the platform.

Developer Beenox said on Twitter today: “We remain hopeful [of an Xbox One release]. We know it’s frustrating for all of you, as it is for our programming team, who worked hard on the game.”

A May 2 retail release remains in place for other platforms.
