Developer Survios and 20th Century Fox are partnering on a new Aliens game. It will be a single-player action-horror title, featuring an original story.

Survios made the announcement on its website (via Eurogamer), where it said:

“This new Aliens game will feature an original storyline, set between the Alien and Aliens films, where a battle hardened veteran has a vendetta against the Xenomorphs.

“The game will take full advantage of Survios’ expertise in creating immersive and authentic gaming experiences, and is being developed for the PC, Console, and VR.”

Survios is making the game in Unreal Engine 5. And it is coming out on consoles and PC. It’s interesting to note that Survios has experience primarily with virtual-reality games. It worked on Creed: Rise to Glory, The Walking Dead Onslaught, and Puzzle Bobble 3D: Vacation Odyssey. This is good news for a horror game, because of all that panicked glancing you tend to do in V.R.

The last game in the series to draw from James Cameron’s film was Aliens: Fireteam Elite. It was a decent co-op shooter. In VideoGamer’s review of the game, I said:

“There is nothing here that will annihilate your sleep, just an uncreative assembly of cherished images, and nothing new to glean from one of cinema’s most celebrated monsters. For better and for worse, you only need to know one thing: where they are.”
