True Alien Isolation VR is finally here with immersive motion controls and much more 

Creative Assembly’s Alien Isolation was one of the first tech demos for the Oculus Rift DK1 VR headset, but the VR version of the game never officially released. While gamers have been able to play a decent VR experience with the Mother VR mod, a new enhanced mod has now been released. 

Currently in a beta format, the Alien Isolation Grand Mother VR mod is an enhanced version of the original by a new team of modders. Available to download here, the mod brings full 6DOF tracking to the already terrifying horror game. 

Alien Isolation Grand Mother VR 

Created by modder JayP, Grand Mother VR uses the abandoned Mother VR mod as a base to create a truly fantastic VR experience. 

Unlike the original mod, this new version of Alien Isolation VR allows players to fully move their weapons and items independently from their character. 

The mod makes Alien Isolation even more immersive and more terrifying than ever before. However, due to the game’s new sense of bodily freedom, there are some neat new tricks you can pull off. 

For example, since the motion tracker is fully functional and movable, you can now hold the tracker behind you and track movement you otherwise couldn’t see. I adored doing this in the VR game Alien Rogue Incursion, but being able to do it in Alien Isolation is much more exciting. 

The new mod is still in an early state, but it already offers a brand-new VR experience. In our limited testing – damn you, work hours – it was fantastic and we only experienced some minor bugs, but JayP warns that some major issues could arise. 

Alien Isolation VR with full motion controls has been a dream ever since I first heard of the DK1 tech demos. While the original Mother VR mod was fun, its lack of full motion controls made it less immersive. Now, Creative Assembly’s fantastic horror game can be played as I’ve always dreamed. 

While fans are still tinkering with the original game, Creative Assembly has started work on a long-awaited sequel. Dubbed Alien Isolation 2, very little is known about the upcoming horror game, but we’re expecting very great things indeed.
