After fears it might never see the light of day, job listings on Remedy’s website have hinted that Alan Wake 2 could well be in development.

“You will be working on the next iteration of Remedy’s unique world-class rendering engine that was previously used in Alan Wake,” says the description for the 3D graphics programmer listing. Combine this with promises of an “AAA console project”, and it’s not a huge stretch to assume a sequel could be in the works.

The listings compliment a story earlier in the year that outed Alan Wake 2 in an animator’s CV.

Interestingly, there’s nothing to suggest Microsoft is involved in the project. Back in June, Microsoft Game Studios’ Phil Spencer said that he didn’t think Remedy had signed the project with a publisher. With no Microsoft involvement, could this mean the sequel is going multi-platform?

There’s nothing in the job listings to support this idea, but there are some other interesting titbits of information to gleam from the vacancies. The listing for a Game Programmer asks for “Experience in handheld development (iOS, Android, porting, scalability)”.

Clearly the studio has more than one project in the go.

Back in May, Remedy confirmed that there is more Alan Wake on the way, but specifically said that it wasn’t Alan Wake 2. It’s more than likely it was referring to Night Springs, an XBLA game which was leaked soon after the comments.

It’s not unreasonable to assume that Remedy has three games in the oven: Night Springs, an iOS port of Night Springs (or another iPhone Alan Wake spin-off), and a full blown sequel. This fits with what we know so far, but as a huge fan of Mr Wake, this is more wishful thinking than anything else.
