Treyarch’s Call of Duty: Black Ops smashed the record-breaking sales of last year’s Modern Warfare 2, and Activision believes its three studio approach to the Call of Duty franchise will enable continued success in the future.
“The Treyarch studio, which made this year’s game, has done better than what the Infinity Ward studio could achieve a year ago,” Vivendi chairman and CEO Jean-Bernard Lévy said. “We have reconstructed Infinity Ward. We have been very happy with the way we have been able to reconstruct it.”
In addition to its two successful studios, Activision also has Sledgehammer working on “Call of Duty properties”.
“We believe this set up of studios working on Call of Duty has demonstrated it can do very well,” Lévy concluded.

Few would have thought Treyarch’s Black Ops would achieve greater success than Modern Warfare 2 – the studio was considered an inferior developer to the team which created the Call of Duty franchise.
Black Ops’ success indicates the majority of gamers don’t regard the studio in charge of development to be all that important, suggesting Activision will have no trouble selling future games in the franchise developed by Sledgehammer.
