Activision has today announced that it has acquired UK-based developer Bizarre Creations – a move which represents the publisher’s latest step in its strategy to enter new genres; last year Activision acquired RedOctane and its Guitar Hero franchise.

Bizarre is best known as the developer of the Project Gotham Racing franchise and is currently finishing work on The Club for SEGA. Although moving onto new projects, Bizarre has stated that PGR4 will be supported post release.

In addition to completing work on current projects, the two Bizarre Creations development teams will now start to develop two new AAA titles for Activision: a racing game and a character game. Bizarre notes that gamers should be prepared for something “big and exciting“.

Financial terms of the agreement have not been disclosed and Activision expects the first game from Bizarre Creations to be released after fiscal year 2009.
