Square Enix has announced on the PlayStation Blog that a remake of its classic RPG, Secret of Mana, will be coming to the PS4, PSVita and PC on February 15, 2018.

The Secret of Mana 3D remake comes with a completely new cartoon-like visual style, voiced characters and a newly recorded soundtrack. Square Enix has said the game will feature gameplay changes, but hasn’t yet gone into detail as to what these are exactly.

Secret of Mana was an action-role playing game that took players to a fantasy world where people mined the earth for an energy source called Mana. An ancient civilisation built a warship called the Mana Fortress that harnessed the precious resource. This angered the gods, who sent a horde of monsters to destroy civilisation and the ensuing war almost destroyed all of the mana in the world. The war is ended by a hero who uses the legendary Mana Sword to stop the conflict and the world returns to peace. Many years later a rising empire sought to restore the mana to the world so it could harvest it and rebuild the Mana Fortress. While this empire grows, an unassuming young lad finds a treasure which comes to be the fabled Mana Sword, and he is thrown into an adventure against the evil empire and tasked with saving the world.

The game is a remake of the SNES game that originally came out way back in 1993, and is considered by some people to be the best RPG of all time, but they are wrong. That title goes to Final Fantasy VII.

Secret of Mana 3D is out on February 15, 2018 for PS4, PSVita and PC.
