Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has revealed there’s nothing from a technological standpoint which prevents 3D video chat from working on the Nintendo 3DS.
Speaking to Forbes, Iwata said: “Technologically speaking, a variety of different things are possible with the 3DS, for example, 3D video chat.”
As far as we know there’s only the one camera on the inside of the 3DS, with the pair of 3D cameras found on the outside of the unit – how 3D video chat would work isn’t clear.
The Nintendo 3DS will be out before the end of March 2011 – retail sources suggest as soon as Christmas.
