Bloomberg reports that Viacom Inc. will pay Harmonix, creators of the hugely successful Rock Band franchise, bonuses totalling more than $300 million.

Harmonix founders Alex Rigopulos and Eran Egozy received a performance bonus of $150 million in the last quarter and Viacom has now confirmed that the pair are set to receive a final performance related payment in 2009 that will exceed $150 million.

Rock Band has sold seven million copies in 13 countries and seen 26 million music downloads.

“We may not have anticipated the payment would be that high, but it’s based on what they have achieved,” Viacom spokeswoman Kelly McAndrew said. “If they are making more money for us and we have to give a little back, that’s OK.”
