2K Games has announced that it has acquired the publishing rights to selected titles in Gas Powered Games’ Dungeon Siege series. 2K Games has also secured publishing rights to the entire back catalogue of Dungeon Siege titles. The first new release will be Dungeon Siege II: Broken World, an expansion that picks up where Dungeon Siege II left off. As well as the expected new items and a new playable race, it’ll feature a new multi-class character development system.

The Dungeon Siege series has always been known for its beautiful graphics and great single and multiplayer gameplay,” said Christoph Hartmann, Managing Director at 2K Games. “2K Games is fully committed to expanding the franchise on PC and new platforms like the PSP system.”

The PSP game is in development at SuperVillain Studios and is an entirely new adventure, created specifically for the handheld. Dungeon Siege: Throne of Agony will feature new playable characters, a non-linear single-player campaign, and Ad Hoc cooperative and competitive multiplayer game modes.

SuperVillain Studios is very excited to team up with Gas Powered Games and 2K Games on the development of Dungeon Siege: Throne of Agony for the PSP system,” said Tim Campbell, co-founder and project lead at SuperVillain Studios. “This title represents an important step for the Dungeon Siege franchise by extending it for the first time ever onto a new platform, merging together the incredibly rich legacy of the Dungeon Siege universe with a fresh, handheld-oriented gameplay experience.”

Dungeon Siege II: Broken World will be released this summer and Dungeon Siege: Throne of Agony will be released for the PSP in the autumn.
