Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel developer 2K Australia is to close, 2K has confirmed.

The studio’s closure follows less than six months after the launch of The Pre-Sequel and just weeks after the arrival of current-gen port Borderlands: The Handsome Collection.

It had previously contributed work to the BioShock and XCOM franchises.

“We can confirm we have taken steps to begin the studio closure process for 2K Australia in order to better manage ongoing development costs while improving the working proximity of our creative teams,” 2K said in a statement provided to Kotaku. “We are very grateful for the team’s valuable contributions to numerous 2K projects, and are working with affected staff to explore reassignment opportunities where possible.”

Meanwhile, “sources close to the situation” told the site that plans to relocate the studio from Canberra to Melbourne resulted in “many high level members of the team to leave”, which may have factored into the developer’s closure.
