Infinity Ward has revealed that the maximum number of players able to take part in a Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer match is 18 on all platforms, news which has angered many PC gaming fans of the series.
While the 18-player count is nothing new to console gamers, PC gamers have been able to take part in 32 player battles in previous Call of Duty titles. This follows the recent announcement that Infinity Ward would not support dedicated servers for the PC version of the game.
Responding to a fan question as part of a Best Buy Q&A, Infinity Ward’s Mackey McCandlish said: “The max number of players on all platforms are 1v1 through 9v9. This is the number of players we focused on when we were balancing map size, perks, classes, challenges, etc.”
Asked how Infinity Ward can justify the lower player count, Mackey added: “In MW2 the entire experience is carefully balanced for a smaller range of players.”
Not long now until you’ll be able to see for yourself how the 9v9 player works out – Modern Warfare 2 will be released on November 10 for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.
