Activision will release the second Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 map pack during the second half of 2010, COO and CFO, Thomas Tippl, said during the publisher’s Q1 earnings call.
Commenting on the publisher’s releases in the “back half” of 2010, Tippl said: “With respect to the Call of Duty franchise, we plan to release the second Map Pack for Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, which is currently in development at Infinity Ward.”
Tipple also suggested that the second DLC pack will carry the same $15 price tag as the first.
“With regard to the Map Pack, I think they’ve been selling incredibly well. As you know, we’ve expanded the number of maps that we are providing as part of that release. And therefore, the $15 price point has still provided a fantastic value to gamers and is also evidenced by the billions of hours that people are playing the game online. So we think that has worked,” he said.
The Stimulus Package exceeded DLC records on Xbox LIVE with more than 1 million downloads during its first 24 hours on sale.
The map pack business has proved hugely successful for Activision. Tippl revealed that the publisher has “digitally delivered almost 17 million [CoD] map packs” – a figure which doesn’t include sales of the recently released Stimulus Package on PS3.
