What are Security Skills in Tom Clancy’s The Division

Security skills make you more secure. They provide and improve different types of cover for your agent, whether that be a riot shield for you to advance slowly toward the enemy, or reinforcing cover that’s already in the field. Security skills are unlocked by upgrading the security wing of your Base of Operations, and each have four potential modifications.

Ballistic Shield

This equips you with a big portable shield – think riot shield – that you can use to block enemy damage and gain ground in a fight. The trade off is that while you’re using your shield you’ll only be able to use your sidearm as a weapon.

Smart Cover

Smart cover reinforces some cover that’s already out. While you’re behind it you’ll get increased damage, and you and any allies behind it will take less damage in return.

Mobile Cover

Deploys a piece of cover large enough for a single person to use. This cover is temporary, and will only give regular cover advantages (and only until it’s been destroyed, because it isn’t invincible cover) but it can be used to block up a gap or cover a vulnerable side.

Survivor Link

So you’re in a fight and you realise, hey, we might have bitten off more than we can chew here. Well, you’re going to need the security signature skill to come to your rescue. This will temporarily increase the damage resistance of you and your allies, as well as increasing your movement speed, which means you’re much better at running away. You could also use it to be more mobile and effective in the actual fight, but hey, that’s up to you.

Security Skill Modifications in Tom Clancy’s The Division

Ballistic Shield Modifications in Tom Clancy’s The Division

Reactive Targeting

If you’re doing your thing with the shield, anyone who shoots it will be pulsed on your radar, so you and your allies will get an exact location on them. It also makes the shield stronger, but lighter too, so you can move a bit quicker with it.

Assault Shield

This mod increases the power of your sidearm, so that when you’re under your shield you still have some attack capabilities. It gets a buff to accuracy and damage, will have some added knockback, and a quicker reload to boot.

Kinetic Breaker

Don’t ask us how, but the kinetic breaker converts incoming damage that hits the shield into health for you. Technology in The Division has advanced far enough that it is basically magic.

Self Healing Armour

If the shield doesn’t take any damage for a bit it’ll restore its own health, so you can use it for longer. A theoretically limitless shield.

Smart Cover Modifications in Tom Clancy’s The Division

Trapper

This is a bit of a weird one again, but still really useful. Any enemies that are using cover will be more vulnerable to your damage, and will also do less damage to you.

Recharger

If you or your allies are using smart cover you health will slowly regenerate over time, as well as getting a boost to the cool down on your skills.

Concealment

If you or any of your squad are behind a bit of smart cover and manage to hit an enemy then said enemy will ping on the radar and show up on everyone’s HUD. At the same time, you yourselves will be immune to being pulsed by enemy radar.

Cover Trail

Cover trail, the master mod, will continue the effects of the smart cover you were behind after you leave cover.

Mobile Cover Modifications in Tom Clancy’s The Division

Extension

The cover you smack down will be bigger and stronger. It’s wide enough for two agents to fit behind it, and it can take more punishment before being destroyed.

Mod 2

Your little portable wall has some explosives strapped on the front, so any enemies that get too close when the shield is disabled will receive a bit of a surprise (it’s the explosives, the explosives are the surprise).

Countermeasures

Similar to some of the mods for the smart cover skill, this will buff your damage while you’re behind the mobile cover, as well as concealing you from enemy pulses.

Second Chance

If the mobile cover is destroyed then any of your allies who were behind it will get an increase to their damage resistance for a bit, which is good in a panicked-scramble-for-new-cover situation.
