With Throne and Liberty’s open beta around the corner, we’ve thrown together a tier list taking into consideration the current state of the game in Korea. The idea behind it is to give you a heads-up on how the game currently is. That way, you know what builds and weapons are popular and why, so you can try them out yourself. Below you’ll find a tier list ranking the weapons for levelling, PvE, and PvP. Each weapon will also have pros and cons with some minor explanations to their combos and what their roles are in game. That way, you have a better idea of what type of build to run. With that said, let us get into it.

Throne and Liberty weapon tier list for open beta

Sword and ShieldCSA
Wand and TomeCAA

The general idea of the tier list is to give you an idea of levelling speeds and viability. Sword and Shield, and Wand and Tome are naked C due to them being largely support weapons. Despite it being an end-game weapon combo, avoid levelling as both together, and find another weapon that offers synergy to cover levelling speeds.

Meanwhile, PvE tier rates weapons for various dungeoneering, alongside world farming. PvP on the other hand takes into account both smaller-scale and larger-scale battles.

You can find more insight into each class below, which features pros and cons, weapon combos you typically find and why. If you want a wider look at weapon combos and builds, we have a dedicated guide to that too.

Crossbow

Pros
  • Strong leveling weapon
  • PvE meta weapon in Korea.
Cons
  • Weaker in PvP

Crossbows are very stong, and highly regarded as the BiS weapons for PvE content in Korea. The class has many skill combos, does lots of damage, and continues to get even stronger with better gear.

You often pair it with daggers in nearly every situation. Daggers give way too much synergy for the crit improvements, close-range poison application, and then unleash with your xbows. Some passives even give offhand effects fro your daagger, and some daggers have lifesteal. It is important for mana tapping for your skills at high-end content if you want to really minmax your build.

Your typical rotation looks something like this: Players will mark a target with their Mortal Mark skill, use a movement skill like Shadow Step to trigger both the crossbow and dagger passives You’ll then get bonus Asdamage, skill damage and attack speed. You then apply poisons, get the crit damage and crit strike rolling. From there, you’re all about crits to reset cooldown on skills like Quick Fire. Your passive of hitting targets affected with Weaken also extends the duration to and further lowers CDs. It’s a very high tempo, crit-friendly and strong playstyle.

Outside of that you often don’t see Crossbows paired with anything else. So, there’s not as much build diversity available.

Daggers

Pros
  • Amazing PvP offhand weapon
  • Strong passive crit damage and chance modifiers
  • Evasion passive shelp defensive support
Cons
  • Low DPS when used as a main hand weapon

The Dagger is not really used as a main hand weapon, but rather an offhand weapon. The reason why is it gives weapons with low defensiveness an escape tool with invisibility. You can also take skills that silence, snare, slow or have synergy with other weapons’ stuns and CC tools. It’s why you see it paired with things like Wand and Tome to give them more offence, crossbow for that close range and high damage harass, and bow for defensiveness. It even pairs with the Greatsword because of its stun and ankle attack combo, and bonus crit for their burst. There are similar things with the Great Staff with Frost Magic, and crit burst on their higher damage skills.

But, the main benefit for the Dagger is its crit ramping. Daggers get a lot of crit both flat and via posion application. This is very desirable for a lot of very high-damage weapons, like Crossbows, Longbows, Greatswords and Great Staff. It largely works better with crossbows and greatswords, allowing their meaty hits to do even more because of their closer range needs. Throw in the dagger’s melee execute and you complete the short-range builds using the daggers very well. Oh and don’t forget poison syenrgy for further crit chance, damage and other buffs it brings for other weapons.

Greatsword

Pros
  • Fast leveling
  • Strong PvP Weapon due to gap closers, slows and stuns in the toolkit
  • ery strong DPS with gear.
Cons
  • Gear dependant

The Greatsword Build is very strong thanks to its passives. You can get things like extra hit and heavy atk chance passives which are very important for landing huge bursts against your foes. It’s one of the only builds that does it. A lot of the skills make the class fairly mobile too, helpful for open-world grinding and leveling.

Typically in both PvE and PvP, you want to pair it with a dagger. The reason for this is thanks to plenty of crit damage modifiers and ways to get crit against poisoned targets. These background effects enable your greatsword to hit hard once. The Daggers have bonus crit damage passives, and poisoning can grant bonus crit chance too. So, you apply those poisons, then do your big swings with the Greatsword’s damage skills. It’s also why it’s gear dependent on rolling crit chance and bonus heavy atk hits to really see the burst the weapon offers.

The other benefit of daggers re defence. Dagger has synergy with your stun or choked status effects from Stunning Strike. You also get another dash with a shadow step and invisibility as a defensive option. Greatdword also has DaVinci’s which is a huge defensive buff. Both weapons really complement each other for the amount of melee and defence you need being pure melee. Again, both of these are useful for PvE and PvP.

Great-Staff-Throne-and-Liberty: A picture of a mage launching a fireball from Throne and Liberty.
The Great Staff is a strong magical ranged DPS weapon filled with fire damage, frost CC skills and AOE Lightning attacks. Image via Amazon Games / NCSOFT.

Great Staff

Pros
  • Decent leveling speeds
  • Strong mana and cooldown adjustment for many builds.
  • Strong burst damage
  • Lots of CC options
Cons
  • Hard to play in PvP
  • Somewhat gear dependant for PvE depending on the weapon combo you’re using.

The Greatstaff is a strong weapon with its very high-powered magical spells. Pairing it with the longbow is typically handy. Thanks to skills like Blitz you can recast skills a second time, therefore offering powerful burst.  The bow’s other benefit are skills that apply Bind, allowing you to safely cast skills like Meteor. There are also plenty of crit passives, and range damage increases depending on distance. Furthermore, there’s a weapon called Toublek’s Thunderous Soul that also increases your crit per 1 meter of range against your foes. You get a double whammy of ranged enhancements via the bow passive. Combo those benefits against a bound target gives you a strong burst window. It plays similarly to the bow main hand version, albeit you’re putting more emphasis on your bow for damage.

If you want a battlemage playstyle, then Daggers work fine. Like other weapons, the daggers grant a lot of crit strike and crit damage modifiers. You can use this to really enhance your burst on skills. Shadow step into combat, apply your poisons, then disengage via ice spells or invis skill. From there, CC your foes, and cast your preferred skills. You can burn targets with fire, and certain fire debuff weapon perks. Or throw big burst via Meteor at your foes. It’s not a meta build, but it’s one you can run regardless.  In PvP, you have the usual frost magic CC skills to really harass enemies. Invisibility is also a key defensive skill to avoid being dives or ganks.

Players looking for a pure caster build can pair it with a Wand and Tome. It will give you some ranged support magic to use alongside your damage. The great staff even has a spell that drags party members in range to them, which is handy for saving allies’ lives or great in PvP support roles.

Longbow

Pros
  • Top Tier DPS Weapon
  • Lots of off-handers to support various playstyles
  • Can be used as a support weapon
Cons
  • Hard to use properly in PvP

The longbow can be a strong weapon in PvP but it needs to be under the right circumstances. Players who know how to position, combo well, and know their strengths and weaknesses can perform well. However, those who get caught will have little chance of survival, forcing them to use daggers for invisibility. If you want to do the most damage in PvP, then Longbow and Staff is the play, but it has more risks.

In PvE, the Longbow and Greatstaff are typically paired together. You get a lot of damage modifiers via Binding an enemy, which further ramps your damage. Combo it with the bow crit passives and the distance travelled attack modifiers and you become a ranged powerhouse. Players often pair the Greatstaff with the a Longbow for the improved mana regeneration passive. Therefore you can spam more abilities and be a constant ragned threat with your strong weapons. There are also some disengage tools from the frost magic, such as Ice Spear and Frost Smokescreen, to give the archer some room to keep at max distance for more optimised combat. The staff skill, High Locus offers lots of cooldown reduction. It is helpful for spamming more arrow skills and trying to fish for better Binding status effects on foes for more DPS. Throw in that bonus mana regen, and you have a very effective caster ranger build.

If that isn’t your fancy, you can go for a Tome or Dagger. Daggers offer more crit for your build for even stronger burst on your skills. Meanwhile, the Bow has a few support skills, which pair nicely with more support from Tome. You essentially become a druid healing allies and using arrows and nature to CC and buff allies instead.

Sword and Shield

Pros
  • Dedicated tanking weapon
  • Needed in PvE
  • Strong disruption in PvP
Cons
  • Slow leveling

For players looking for a tanky playstyle, the Sword and Shield is dedicated to the role. Due to its largely defensive nature, it makes the weapons somewhat harder to level with. You’ll need to take something good at grinding like the Greatsword or Greatstaff to speed the levelling process up.

After that, you have an interesting world open up. You can go Greatsword for PvE for the knight fantasy of tanking. The Greatsword when used for tanking offers a charge, more defensive buffs, and a stun, and can provoke enemies with the right Greatsword drop for even better taunting of enemies. You’ll be a classic warrior-type tank with this weapon combo

If you’d rather have a more Paladin / Cleric-type role, then Wand and Tome offer that. Buff your defensiveness with your Sword and Shield and then use the Tome to do AOE healing. This is useful for party heals, or placing heals on the ground for you to tank in. It’s very good in both PvP and PvE for keeping parties and your large-scale PVP allies reinvigorated. And, because of the Sword and Shield tankyness, you’re a very hard-to-kill target always restoring ally health. Add on passives for passive healing when taking damage, and you have a very strong tank with a self-healing playstyle.

Wand-Tome-Throne-and-Liberty: A magical book emitting a powerful magical aura.

Wand and Tome

Pros
  • Strong Healing
  • Synergistic mana regen for casters
  • Self healing pasives for defensiveness and tanking options.
Cons
  • Isn’t the meta tank off-hander for PvE
  • Slow levelling

The Wand and Tome is the weapon type for players looking to play a ranged support DPS. The power to heal yourself and your allies, while also using magical attacks to curse enemies for DoT and AoE makes it very flexible. The weapon is fine to use in all modes, but its flexibility also prevents it from being a solid DPS weapon. So, keep in mind it has its niche. We have a more in-depth Throne and Liberty healer build here if you’re interested?

As for combos, you have a few. For tanking builds you have the Sword and Shield for a very sturdy support controller. You essentially become a cleric with strong defensiveness and support heals ideal for tanking or in PvP. You can do it for PvE too for a self-healing focused tanking playstyle.

Meanwhile, a Longbow and Wand offers lots of healing and utility. The blitz to double cast heals, alongside the Purifying Touch skill from the bow allows you to switch to your bow and cleanse an ally of a CC effect. You can also aid allies with snaring enemies with your attacks or protect yourself from approaching enemies while safely harassing enemies with your damage at a distance.

If you want to go full mage, then pair it with the Great Staff. You can either go full damage and use the Tome to offer self or party sustain. There are also some additional mana regen buffs from the tome and granting allies buffs from your support spell giving you more longevity with your mana bar. If you want to go deeper in support, you can go frost and support allies with lots of kiting and CC skills. There;’s even a skill that drags allies toward you to help them escape death. So, you can go full ranged support too if you want to.
