- The error message “Build request failed” usually appears to PC players using Steam.
- While Embark often issues a hotfix, there are a few methods to fix the problem: Run EasyAntiCheat with a different game, launch The Finals as Administrator, or verify your game files.
Most online games can encounter various types of issues ranging from server problems to faulty files, and more. There are a few such issues in The Finals, with a notorious error presenting the “Build request failed” message. Fortunately, there are a few solutions that you can try to fix it.
How to fix fatal error build request failed in The Finals
This error message seems to mostly cause issues for the PC players playing the game through Steam. It mainly seems to be a server-side error related to EasyAntiCheat that The Finals uses. However, the reports from many players point to possible different causes, making it difficult to pin down. When this error happens, there is usually a reaction from the devs to fix it as soon as possible. With all that, let’s see what you can do to fix the error by yourself.
Run EasyAntiCheat through a different game
One of the easiest solutions that players have reported to work is to run another game that uses EasyAntiCheat. In some way, that manages to bypass the error, letting you play the game afterwards. Just launch a game like Fortnite, Apex Legends, or another game that uses EasyAntiCheat. Let it boot up, then exit and try launching The Finals again.
Run The Finals as administrator
There is another simple solution that seems to work to fix the error. You will have to find a certain file, and then run it as Administrator. Here’s how to do it:
- Navigate to the folder on your PC where The Finals is installed.
- Find the file named start_protected_game.exe in that folder.
- Right-click the file and select Run as Administrator.
- Then, find the file named Discovery.exe in the same folder.
- Open the file to launch the game and see if the error persists.
If you still get the “Build request failed” error, you can try one more thing. Follow the same steps as above, but also make sure to run Discovery.exe as administrator. Then try launching the game again.
Verify game files
Because this error tends to appear around updates, it’s possible that it’s related to a corrupted game file. A safe way to fix it is to verify your game files and let Steam download replacements for any that are missing. Here’s what you can do:
- Go to your Steam Library and right-click on The Finals.
- Select Properties from the drop-down menu.
- Click on the Installed Files tab.
- Then, click the button “Verify integrity of game files”.
Steam will then begin the process of checking and re-downloading game files. This can take a few minutes, so give it time to complete. After that, try launching the game again to see if that got rid of the error.
Contact Embark support
As we explained, Embark Studios is pretty quick to address this particular error when it shows up. You can always check for updates and hotfixes. If there are none, and none of the methods above have worked, your best course of action is to contact their support team. Once there, you can submit a ticket and explain your problem. More often than not, they are already working on patching it if it’s a widespread issue.
