Nix is Kay’s faithful and lovable companion during the journey in Star Wars Outlaws. Besides petting the cuddly merqaal, he can do so much more for you. He can steal, push buttons, squeeze through tight passages, but that’s not all. During dicey situations, Nix can also attack or distract your enemies, which can be the difference between success and failure.

How to use Nix to distract enemies

Whenever you take on a stealthy approach, it’s paramount to keep enemies away from spotting you. Nix can help you there by using the Distract action. To send Nix to distract an enemy, hold the Nix Mode button (Q on PC, L1 on PS5, or LB on Xbox). You’ll see a path where Nix can go and a Distract option near enemies. Pressing the prompted key will send your pet to put on a show for the guard, diverting their attention.

If you’re only looking to sneak past the guard, make sure to position Nix in such a way so they turn in the opposite direction. Similarly, if you’re looking for a sneaky melee takedown, position Nix so that the enemy’s back is turned to you. Then, while Nix is distracting them, sneak behind them and press the Melee attack button for a takedown (V on PC, square on PS5, or X on Xbox).

✓ Note

Enemies wearing heavy equipment and helmets cannot be taken down with melee takedowns.

Similarly, Distract can also be used during combat. This won’t make the enemies stop being aggressive towards you, but it will take their attention away from targeting you for a few seconds. That can buy you enough time to land a few shots in a tough situation. However, there’s a more potent way to utilize Nix in combat, by using the Attack command.

Don’t worry, Nix won’t get hurt!

How to use Nix to attack enemies

During combat, Nix can be invaluable in giving you an edge against most enemies. You can send Nix to Attack the enemy, which will prompt the critter to rush forward and jump onto the enemy’s face. To do that, hold the Nix Mode button and hover over the enemy. The Distract option will become Attack. Click the prompt button and watch Nix’s brave charge.

Once attacked, the enemy will be stunned while trying to get your pet off of themselves. Use the time to shoot them, or approach them for a melee takedown. Don’t worry, Nix won’t get hurt! However, if you take too long, the enemy will get him off, so use the window of opportunity wisely.

You can use the Attack command out of combat too in the same manner, instead of distracting them. You can then sneak behind the enemy for a melee takedown. Just make sure that there’s no one else who can spot you sneaking behind.

✓ Pro tip

You can use Nix’s attack to stealthily take down up to two enemies at once. To do that, sneak to a good position and send Nix to Attack one of them. The other will turn to help their friend – use that time to sneak behind the one trying to help. Use melee takedown on them, then quickly repeat the action on the one that Nix is attacking. Just make sure neither of them can raise the alarm.

While attacks and distractions are already great ways for Nix to help, that only scratches the surface of his usefulness. So whatever you do, make sure to reward the critter by petting him. And follow his nose to find more treasures while you’re at it.
